We’re new parents. Somewhat overwhelmed by all the material out there for babies now. We’ve sifted through a lot of it and want to help out other parents in doing the same. At the same time, we’re always open for new ideas and tips and tricks, for making our boy a happy little camper.

We’ve done some schoolwork in the field of Cognitive Science. It’s the study of mind: blending linguistics with computer science with neuroscience with animal behavior with psychology and child development. It was a ton of fun. And now we’ve got our own “lab” set up at home and we’ve got a lot more questions. We’ve been trying to collect answers, or best guesses and wanted some way to store what we’ve collected, so that we could remember the good, the bad, and the confusing. Then figured, we might as well make it public, because we’ve got a lot of friends (new and old) that are starting to find themselves in similar situations.
We can’t push one methodology over another – that’s for the authors to do. We’ll just try and give an overview of the options out there. They authors all seem like they need to be on one extreme or the other, in order to generate buzz and carve out their niche. In reality though, our child (and your child too probably) is thrive in a varied environment. Besides, there isn’t one ultimate technique one can use to help every child. Each child is a unique individual that will respond to teaching in varied ways.

A common theme throughout stresses how just caring about your child enough to research just a bit shows that you’ll be a good parent. No parent is perfect, we all will have good days and days we won’t want to remember. But as long as we continue to strive to be just a bit better, our children will be so much better off.

We just need to remember to love, support and have patience. A lot of patience. The kids are worth it, aren’t they?
